Empresses in the Palace is a 2011 Chinese television series based on the Internet novel of the same name by Liu Lianzi. Directed by Zheng Xiaolong, it stars Sun Li in the title role of Zhen Huan.

The series had sweeping popularity in mainland China, that Sina termed it as “a whole town tunes in to watch when it airs on TV”. It was followed by Huang Taizi Mishi (2004), Taizu Mishi (2005) and Secret History of Kangxi (2006), all of which were also produced by You Xiaogang.

Written by creator Chiung Yao, the Cinderella-like story is set in 18th-century Qing dynasty during the Qianlong Emperor’s reign.

Palace is a 2011 Chinese television series produced by Yu Zheng; starring Yang Mi, Feng Shaofeng, Mickey He and Tong Liya. The series was directed by Lee Wai-chu and starred cast members from mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace is a 2018 Chinese television series that chronicles the marriage of Qianlong Emperor and Hoifa-Nara, the Step Empress. Starring Zhou Xun and Wallace Huo, the series is based on novel Hou Gong Ru Yi Zhuan by Liu Lianzi, and is the sequel to the critically acclaimed drama Empresses in the Palace. The series eventually won acclaim for its exquisite props, lavish sets and stellar cast and has a score of 7.4 points on Douban.

The Young Son of Heaven is a historical TV series adapted from Ling Li’s novel of the same name. It is directed and written by Liu Heng and starred by Deng Chao, Pan Hong, Hao Lei, etc.

In May 2004, Liu Heng won the “Excellent Film Crew Award” of the Chinese TV & Broadcasting Academy.
